Orthodontic treatment – crowding
Tooth crowding is a common phenomenon in modern society. Mostly crowding is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental causes. Too early loss of milk teeth, soft diet and other factors cause that the bone in which the teeth are embedded does not develop in a way that allows the entire dentition to be accommodated.
[/ VIDEO]We distinguish crowding of milk and permanent teeth.
- Crowded milk teeth are a good reason to go with your child to the orthodontist and perform an orthodontic examination. Mostly crowded milk teeth do not require intervention.
- Crowded permanent teeth hinder proper cleaning and can cause periodontal disease. In addition, tooth crowding disturbs the harmony of teeth, worsening the aesthetic effect of a smile.
Tooth crowding – treatment strategies
There are many ways to relieve tooth crowding:
- Light crowding:
- Tooth stripping – this is a procedure that reduces the width of the teeth and gets the extra space needed to rank the crowded teeth. Human teeth are built in a way that allows "grinding" the points of contact. During stripping, the orthodontist removes a small part of the enamel, of the order of 0.1 mm on each side. The strength of this treatment lies in the quantity. Removing a small amount of enamel from each side on each of the teeth in the dental arch allows you to get the space needed to align the teeth with little crowding.
- deflection of teeth – in the case of small crowding and tilted teeth, the solution may be to tilt the teeth. This action allows you to enlarge the dental arch, providing the missing place.
- moderate to severe crowding::
- Tooth disstalization – this is an action that causes the lateral sections of the dental arch to move backwards. This provides sufficient space for the front teeth This is an extremely effective solution. It often avoids tooth extraction.
- removal of teeth to create a place – there are situations when the mutual relationship of the upper and lower teeth combined with increased crowding forces the orthodontist to make a decision to remove the teeth. It happens that teeth are removed only in the jaw or mandible, but there are also situations when you need to remove teeth in both jaws at the same time. All decisions are made individually, with a view to the best aesthetic effect and ensuring the correct function.
